If you’re looking for minimalist bathroom inspiration then look no further than Italian brand Ceramica Catalano. Presented here is the Tonalità collection, inspired by the harmonious beauty of nature. It’s ticking all the bathroom trends for 2024 – earthy tones, natural textures and organic forms. Out goes your standard white sanitary ware (boring!), and in comes something much more tactile, with wooden accents, muted colours, architectural tiles, round mirrors, and satin finishes that you can’t help but stroke.

With mood lighting, the result is warm and inviting, and anything but clean and clinical. Texture and materiality are key here, helping to create a sensory experience that feels rich and soothing. It indicates a trend where bathroom design is moving away from the plain, functional and spartan to something much more personalised. Introducing Ceramica Catalano

Founded in 1967, Ceramica Catalano designs and manufactures bathroom ceramic sanitary ware from its factory in the region of Viterbo, located just to the north of Rome. The brand has nine collections in its range, including the latest Tonalità collection, which include washbasins, sanitary ware, accessories, bathtubs and shower trays.

Ceramica Catalano carries the Made in Italy mark, highlighting a dedication to quality, craftsmanship and design excellence. For nearly 50 years, the company has been pushing technical innovations, investing in highly digitalised systems, robotics and smart manufacturing, as well as trained and specialised craftspeople. With a dedicated research and development laboratory, Ceramica Catalano’s focus is very much on sanitary ware and materials with a high technological performance.

A focus on sustainability

Ceramica Catalano is committed to moving to a more sustainable form of manufacturing too. It’s already the first Italian company in the sector to obtain an EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) certificate for its products, and the first company in the world to gain ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) certification. This makes it possible for Ceramica Catalano to assess the CO2 emissions that come from all the phases of the production process, from the extraction of the raw material to the packaging and even the waste produced during manufacture.

Having significantly reduced its energy use over the past few years, the factory also uses a heat recovery system and photovoltaics, as well as an efficient water purifier to reduce the use of purification products. On site there is also an innovative recycling plant that can recycle 100% of ceramic waste created from the industrial process.

Minimalist bathroom inspiration – the Tonalità collection

The Tonalità collection is Ceramica Catalano’s latest release. Available in eight satin shades inspired by nature, the designs balance clean, minimal lines with refined, fluid shapes to give an organic quality. The beauty of the range is the flexibility and versatility – you can mix and combine natural materials and colours to create a space that truly reflects your personal style.

The eight shades are: Sabbia, Seta, Lino, Acqua, Tortora, Cemento, Nero and Bianco. Sabbia and Lino are my two favourites – they are both neutral and timeless, offering the perfect alternative to a brighter pure white, without having to embrace colour completely. They’ve got that simple Japandi feel that is so popular at the moment.

Sabbia is a pale, warm taupe that pairs well with wood and patinated brass, while Lino is an off white that appears soft and organic. For my own bathroom, I made the slightly left field choice of a green sink and I love how it adds a unique focal point, lifting the off white tiles around it. If you’re feeling a bit braver you could go for Acqua – the soft, cool turquoise shade would bring instant freshness to a bathroom.
